I am excited to share with you that I have the opportunity to travel to South Sudan on a short term mission trip with Mountain Brook Community Church and Neverthirst. On April 16th, our team of seven will travel to Mundri, South Sudan which will serve as the base for our outreach. I will hit the ground running with a trip to a nearby village to preach through a translator. Although English is the official language of South Sudan and is taught to children who are fortunate enough to go to school, there are 60 indigenous languages spoken throughout the country!

Our team is already meeting regularly to prepare. We are busy partnering with other local ministries to consider how we can best reach the physical and spiritual needs of the people we will meet. I am particularly looking forward to having opportunities to share the Gospel, to encourage and serve our brothers and sisters in Christ who live there, and to take pictures!
I shake my head and ask myself why it has been so long since I have served in this way. Two of the most obvious reasons are fear and funding. Fear, of going to such a difficult country where inconvenience is the norm. Funding, as I began this adventure by doubting that God would provide what was necessary to go. I’m convinced that the answer to those reasons is to strengthen my faith, and since I have all of the funding necessary to go, then I’m half way there!
By His Grace,
May God show us His favor and bless us! May He smile on us! Then those living on earth will know what You are like; all nations will know how You deliver Your people. Psalm 67:1-2
